Wilsons Promontory Austrlia has everything you need for outdoor adventure
An amazing location for Australians to enjoy is the wonder of Wilsons Promontory. This was the home of the aborigines for almost seven thousand years. Yet it was more than that it because it was a sacred and spiritual haven. When the first European arrived he looked to find a way to make money. George Bass found that desire satiated with the cove filled with seals.
For George he saw dollar signs and slaughtered the seals to sell their coats for money. He was not worried about saving the beauty of the landscape, simply of making his fortune. But now this area is sacred to many vacationers who lovingly call it The Prom. They are the ones that visit year after year and understand the draw of the land.
This space is the biggest stretch of coastal wilderness which is why it is where many come for vacation. To stay here means you must plan in advance as there is a limited amount of camp grounds and even smaller numbers of camping slots.
There is only one small area that can be considered a town. Called Tidal River it is simply a store, cafe, fish and chip stand, and an outdoor movie theatre built in the forties. With almost five hundred camping spots it is a very sought after location. Those that come here reserve for years and the tradition entails a nighttime movie even if you have to stand in line for a long amount of time.
If you come here you love to be outside hiking through the wilderness. This location is about seeing the landscape close up. One lovely hike is out to the Wilson Promontory Lighthouse to visit the building that convicts built but that affords you the chance to marvel at the Bass Strait from all angles.
When you have nature you have animals. There is no end to the mammals making this place home. Over thirty different varieties of animals live here like emus, wallabies and koalas. Add to that birds and wading birds galore and you will have a wonderful time interacting with them all.
With no hotels or motels, camping is the preferred way of enjoying this location. If you come here you know that you have to plan ahead. Many individual want to spend their holidays here not only for the landscape but to climb up to Mt. Oberon and see the breathtaking views of the Bass Strait and the topography of the land.
The Lilly Pilly Gully Nature trail is more than just a cute name as it delivers with a sensational experience through a rain forest. Just make sure to watch where you walk as a plethora of venomous snakes make their homes here. The beaches are well known for their unspoiled sands. But maybe try the noisy and aptly named Squeaky Beach for a laugh. The quartz that makes up the sand makes noise when you walk meaning sneaking up on anyone is out of the question.
If you know nature you know Wilsons Promontory and are a repeat visitor. This location is the ultimate in outdoor adventure and sights. If you want hiking, swimming, camping and climbing to be on your vacation agenda then this is the place to come. Just make sure you take time to sit under the stars and watch a movie creating a tradition that will hold up for a lifetime.
